LEDE - Live End, Dead End Room Design

At the start of '70s, studio engineers started to draw the conclusion that recording spaces that had been fully decked out with acoustic absorption material created unnatural sounding recordings that just didn't translate in the real-world. As a result, 'dead ends' were created where only part of the space was covered with material that absorbed all sound to create a dry, dead character. The opposite end of the space was left bare and referred to as the 'live end', since sound waves bouncing through the area had a more lively, open character.
